Product Description

The Kenmore 46-9490 is the replacement water filter for Kenmore Elite and LG refrigerators built around the ADQ73613401 filter platform, also sold under the LG part number LT800P. Kenmore and LG use the same cartridge here; only the label and part number differ, which is why the same filter appears as 9490, 469490, ADQ73613402 and ADQ73613408 depending on where you bought your refrigerator.

Inside is an activated carbon block that the water passes through on its way to both the dispenser and the icemaker. It reduces the chlorine taste and odour that make tap water unpleasant, and traps sediment and fine particles that can cloud your water and ice or leave grit in the bottom of a glass. Rated for roughly 200 gallons or six months of normal household use.

Installation

1. Open the fresh food compartment and locate the filter cover in the upper right corner. Flip or slide it open.
2. Turn the old cartridge a quarter-turn counter-clockwise and pull it straight out. A small amount of water may drip — have a cloth ready.
3. Remove the protective caps from the new filter. Do not lubricate the O-rings.
4. Line the new cartridge up with the housing, push it in fully, then turn it a quarter-turn clockwise until it stops and sits flush.
5. Close the cover and dispense about 2.5 gallons of water — roughly five minutes — to flush out trapped air and loose carbon fines. Spurting and cloudy water during this step are normal.
6. Reset the filter indicator: press and hold the Filter or Reset button on the dispenser panel for about three seconds until the light changes.
7. Discard the first two or three batches of ice so the icemaker clears the old line water.

Replacement Schedule

Change the filter sooner if dispenser flow slows noticeably or the water taste starts to drift back — those are the practical signs a cartridge is loaded up, regardless of what the indicator light says.
