LG filters are not interchangeable. LG uses five different filter platforms — LT500P, LT600P, LT700P, LT800P and LT1000P. They look similar but they do not fit each other's housings. Confirm your part number before ordering. If your refrigerator was built after 2016, it most likely takes the LT1000P, not this filter.

Overview

This is the replacement water filter for LG refrigerators built on the LT700P platform — the filter used across most LG French door, four-door, and counter-depth models made from roughly 2010 through 2016, plus the Kenmore refrigerators built on the same platform under part number 46-9690.

Inside is an activated carbon block that reduces chlorine taste and odor, along with rust, sediment and other particulates carried in municipal tap water, so your dispensed water and ice taste the way they should. Rated for 200 gallons or six months of normal household use, whichever comes first.

One thing to know before you install it: the LT700P does not twist in like most refrigerator filters. It slides in horizontally and then lifts upward to lock. Trying to twist it is the single most common cause of a damaged filter housing on these models. Full instructions are below.

How to Install It

Read this first: the LT700P locks by lifting, not by twisting. Twisting it can crack the filter receptor, which is an expensive repair. It takes about two minutes to do correctly.
  1. Open the filter cover. Look in the upper right corner inside the fresh-food compartment. Lower the hinged cover to expose the filter.
  2. Remove the old filter. Pull it straight down until it releases from the receptor, then pull it out horizontally toward you. A few drops of water are normal.
  3. Unwrap the new filter and pull the protective cap off the end.
  4. Line it up. Turn the filter so the two notches on top sit horizontally, then align it with the receptor opening.
  5. Push it in horizontally until it stops.
  6. Lift up to lock. Raise the filter until it stops and seats firmly. Do not twist. If it won't lift smoothly, back it out and re-check the notch alignment rather than forcing it.
  7. Close the cover.
  8. Flush the line. Run about 3 gallons through the dispenser — roughly 5 minutes. This clears trapped air and rinses loose carbon fines. Cloudy or slightly grey water during this step is normal and clears on its own.
  9. Dump the first batch of ice. Discard the first full tray the ice maker produces after installation.
  10. Reset the indicator. Press and hold the filter reset button on the control panel until the light clears. The exact button varies by model — check your owner's manual if it isn't labeled.

Common Questions

How do I know I need the LT700P and not another LG filter?

Read the label on your current filter. LT700P, ADQ36006101 or ADQ36006102 means this one. If your refrigerator was built after 2016, it very likely uses the LT1000P instead — same general area of the fridge, different filter. When the filter number and the model list disagree, trust the filter number.

Are LT700P, LT700PC and LT700PCS different filters?

No. The suffixes reflect packaging and color variations only. All three are the same filter and fit the same refrigerators.

Why doesn't it twist in like my old fridge's filter did?

The LT700P uses a push-and-lift locking design rather than the quarter-turn twist found on most refrigerator filters. Slide it in horizontally, then lift up until it locks. To remove it later, pull straight down first, then out. Twisting is what damages these housings.

Does this work with Kenmore refrigerators?

Yes, on the Kenmore models built on LG's platform — those use filter numbers 46-9690, 9690 or 469690. Check the label on your current filter to confirm.

Where exactly is the filter in my refrigerator?

Upper right corner inside the fresh-food section, behind a small hinged cover you flip down. It is not in the base grille and not in the freezer on these models.

My water came out cloudy after I installed it. Is something wrong?

No. That's trapped air and a small amount of loose carbon, and it's expected on a fresh filter. Run about 3 gallons through the dispenser and it clears. If it's still cloudy after that, contact us.

How many should I buy?
