How to Replace the Filter

  1. Locate the filter housing — upper right corner inside the fresh-food compartment on most models, or in the front base grille on some older side-by-sides.
  2. Open the housing door. Keep a towel handy; a small amount of water may drip from the old cartridge.
  3. Turn the old cartridge a quarter turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out.
  4. Remove the protective cap from the new filter, align it with the housing, push it in and turn a quarter turn clockwise until it stops.
  5. Close the housing door and confirm it latches flush.
  6. Run about 2–3 gallons through the dispenser to flush trapped air and loose carbon fines. Sputtering and slightly gray water during this step are normal.
  7. Reset the filter indicator light — hold the "Filter Reset" button for roughly 3 seconds, or on models with a menu, press Options, then Lock, then Measured Fill.
  8. Discard the first two batches of ice so any residual air or carbon dust clears the ice maker.
