Samsung DA97-17376B (HAF-QIN/EXP) DA97-08006C Refrigerator Water Filter

⚠ Check your part number before ordering. DA97-17376B is not interchangeable with DA29-00020B (HAF-CIN/EXP). The two filters have different housings and will not fit each other's brackets. If your current filter is marked DA29-00020B or HAF-CIN, order that part instead.
Where this filter goes: DA97-17376B is an interior filter. It twists into a housing inside the fresh-food compartment — not into the base grille at the bottom of the refrigerator. If your filter pushes into a slot in the bottom front grille, you have a different filter and this part will not fit.

Description

Replacement water filter for Samsung French door and side-by-side refrigerators that use the DA97-17376B / HAF-QIN/EXP filter. Reduces chlorine taste and odor and helps keep sediment and particulates out of your dispensed water and ice.

The filter uses a compressed carbon block to reduce the chlorine taste and odor that municipal water supplies commonly carry, so water and ice from the dispenser taste cleaner. Trapping sediment also helps protect the dispenser and ice maker lines from grit and scale particles carried in the supply water.

The slim cartridge twists in and out by hand — no tools, no shutting off the household water supply, and no draining the lines. Rated for up to 300 gallons, or roughly six months of typical household use.

Installation

  1. Open the fresh-food compartment and locate the filter housing on the upper interior wall.
  2. Turn the old filter counter-clockwise about a quarter turn until it releases, then pull it straight out. A small amount of water may drip — keep a cloth handy.
  3. Remove the protective cap from the new filter and check that the O-rings are seated and undamaged.
  4. Push the new filter into the housing and rotate it clockwise until it stops and sits flush.
  5. Dispense and discard about 2–3 gallons of water (roughly four minutes) to clear air and carbon fines from the line. Water may sputter or look cloudy at first — this is trapped air and clears as you flush.
  6. Reset the filter indicator light. On most models this means holding the filter reset button for about three seconds; the exact button varies by model, so check your owner's manual.
  7. Discard the first two batches of ice so the ice maker clears any residual air.

Any noticeable drop in flow or return of chlorine taste Replace immediately

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I tell whether I need DA97-17376B or DA29-00020B?

Pull your existing filter and read the part number printed on the label. The two cartridges have different housings and mounting orientations, so a filter that turns freely in one bracket will not seat in the other. If your model is not in the compatibility table above, check our DA29-00020B listing.

Is DA97-08006C the same filter as DA97-17376B?

Yes. DA97-08006C is an earlier part number for the same cartridge, and DA97-17376B superseded it. Either number will fit the same housing, and this listing covers both.

What does HAF-QIN/EXP mean?

HAF-QIN/EXP is Samsung's retail packaging designation for this filter, while DA97-17376B is the service part number. They refer to the same cartridge.

Do I need to shut off the water supply before changing the filter?

No. The housing seals itself when the cartridge is removed, so you can swap it with the water line live. Expect a few tablespoons of drip from the old filter.

Why is my water cloudy or sputtering after installing a new filter?

That is air trapped in the new cartridge and the supply line. It clears after you dispense two to three gallons. Grey specks in the first glass are loose carbon fines and also flush out.

My filter indicator light stays on after replacing the filter.

The indicator runs on a timer, not a sensor, so it must be reset manually. Hold the filter reset button for about three seconds. The button label differs across models — consult your owner's manual for the exact sequence on your unit.

Water flow has slowed noticeably. Is the filter the cause?

A filter nearing the end of its service life restricts flow as sediment accumulates in the media. If flow dropped gradually and the filter has been in for several months, replacement usually restores it.

Can I run the refrigerator without a filter installed?

Some Samsung models accept a bypass plug and some will not dispense at all without a cartridge in place. Check your owner's manual before removing the filter for an extended period.
