Samsung DA29-00003G (HAF-CU1/XAA) Refrigerator Water Filter
- DA29-00003A and DA29-00003B are earlier versions of this same filter. The DA29-00003G replaces both.
- DA29-00003F is a different specification built for European markets and is not the correct filter for North American refrigerators.
Description
The Samsung DA29-00003G, also sold under the code HAF-CU1/XAA, is the replacement water filter for a wide range of Samsung side-by-side and French door refrigerators built roughly between 2005 and 2013. It supplies the door dispenser and the ice maker.
Inside the cartridge is an activated carbon block that reduces chlorine taste and odor, along with sediment and particulates carried in the supply line. The result is water and ice that taste noticeably cleaner, and less grit reaching the dispenser and ice maker components.
The cartridge is a straight twist-in fit — no tools, no shutting off the household water supply, and no plumbing work. Most people have it swapped out in under two minutes.

How to Install
- Turn the ice maker off at the control panel. This stops it calling for water mid-swap.
- Locate the filter housing in the upper right rear corner of the fresh food compartment.
- Twist the old cartridge counter-clockwise about a quarter turn until it releases, then pull it straight down and out. A small amount of water may drip — have a cloth ready.
- Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge and line it up with the housing.
- Push the cartridge in and twist clockwise until it stops firmly. Do not force it past the stop.
- Run roughly 2–4 gallons of water through the dispenser, or about 4 minutes, until it runs clear. Sputtering and cloudiness at first is trapped air and is normal.
- Turn the ice maker back on and discard the first two batches of ice.
- Reset the filter indicator: press and hold the Ice Type and Child Lock buttons together for about 3 seconds, until the indicator light clears. On some panels this is the Alarm or Hold 3 Sec for Ice Off button — check your manual if the light stays on.
Replacement Schedule
| Household | Typical Usage | Suggested Interval |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 people | Light dispenser and ice use | 6 months |
| 3–4 people | Daily drinking water and ice | 6 months |
| 5+ people | Heavy dispenser and ice use | 4–5 months |
| Any household on well or high-sediment water | Visible grit or sediment in the supply | 3–4 months |
Replace sooner than scheduled if dispenser flow slows noticeably or the water taste changes, whichever comes first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Samsung revised the part code over the years and the G suffix is the current version. It fits and functions in place of both earlier codes.
Can I use DA29-00003F instead? No. The F variant is built to a different specification for European markets and is not the correct filter for refrigerators sold in North America.
Do I need to shut off the water supply? No. The housing seals itself when the cartridge is removed. Expect a few drops of water, nothing more.
Why is my water cloudy after installing it?That is air trapped in the new cartridge and the line. It clears after you flush a few gallons through the dispenser.
The filter light is still on after I changed it. Why?The indicator runs on a timer, not on a sensor, so it has to be reset by hand. Hold the Ice Type and Child Lock buttons together for about 3 seconds. Some panels use a different button combination — your manual will confirm which.
What if my model number is not listed above?Send us your full model number and we will confirm the correct filter before you order.
