GE RPWF Refrigerator Water Filter Replacement
The GE RPWF is the replacement water filter for select GE and GE Profile refrigerators. It reduces chlorine taste and odor and captures rust, sediment and other particulates, so water and ice from your dispenser taste clean and pour clear. Each cartridge is rated for 300 gallons or six months of normal use, whichever comes first.
The RPWF sits inside the left refrigerator door rather than in the ceiling of the fresh food compartment. It also installs differently from most GE filters: it swings out and pushes straight in, with no twisting, no tools and no need to shut off the water supply. How to Install
- Open the filter door. The housing is on the inner panel of the left refrigerator door. Pull the small compartment door open to expose the cartridge.
- Remove the old filter. Pull the bottom of the cartridge outward to swing it clear, then draw it straight out. Do not twist. A few drops of water may escape — that is normal.
- Fit the new filter. Line the cartridge up with the word FRONT facing outward and push it straight in until it seats firmly, then close the compartment door.
- Flush the line. Run about two gallons through the dispenser, roughly five minutes, to clear trapped air. Cloudy water at first is air in the line and clears on its own.
- Dump the first batch of ice. Discard the first full bin so any residual carbon fines are cleared out.
- Reset the indicator. Press and hold the filter reset button on the control panel until the light clears.

How do I tell whether I need the RPWF or the RPWFE?
Read the label on the filter currently in your refrigerator. RPWF, WSG-4, RWF1063 or RWF3600A means you need the RPWF option. RPWFE means you need the RPWFE option. If the old filter is long gone, choose RPWFE — it works in both refrigerator types.
What happens if I fit an RPWF where an RPWFE belongs?
The RPWFE carries an RFID chip that your refrigerator's control panel reads for filter status and leak monitoring. Without it, the display may show a filter error or the dispenser may not run. The reverse is fine: an RPWFE will run normally in a refrigerator designated for the RPWF.
Does this filter twist in like other GE filters?
No. The RPWF swings out and pushes straight in. Open the door-mounted compartment, swing the old cartridge outward, pull it straight out, and push the new one in with the FRONT label facing you.
Where is the filter in my refrigerator?
Inside the left refrigerator door, behind a small hinged compartment cover. Many other GE filters live in the top right corner of the fresh food compartment — if that is where yours is, you need a different filter.
Do I need to turn off the water supply first?
No. The housing seals itself as the cartridge comes out. Expect a small amount of drips and have a cloth handy.
