Frigidaire EPTWFU01 PureSource Ultra II Refrigerator Water Filter

Check your filter before ordering — Frigidaire uses four cartridge shapes. The EPTWFU01 is a short, flat, push-and-twist cartridge used in French door and side-by-side models built from 2015 onward. It will not fit housings designed for the ULTRAWF PureSource Ultra (an 11" cylinder), the WF3CB PureSource 3 (an inline cartridge behind the bottom grille), or the FPPWFU01 PurePour PWF-1 (used on 2020-and-newer models). The part number is printed on the end cap of the filter currently in your refrigerator — pull it out and read it before you buy.
Where this filter goes: the EPTWFU01 installs inside the fresh food compartment, in the upper right rear corner, near the ceiling. Push it in and rotate 90° clockwise until the grip end turns from horizontal to vertical. No tools and no water shut-off required.

Product Description

The EPTWFU01 is the PureSource Ultra II water and ice cartridge for Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional, Electrolux and Crosley refrigerators built from 2015 onward. It carries the alternate designation EWF02 on Electrolux units and EPTWFU01C on later production runs — all three are the same cartridge with the same housing interface, so a filter marked EPTWFU01C will seat correctly in a refrigerator that shipped with an EPTWFU01.

Filtration is handled by a 0.5-micron coconut-shell activated carbon block. Water passes through the compressed carbon media on its way to both the dispenser and the ice maker, reducing chlorine taste and odor along with sand, silt, rust particles and sediment that make water look cloudy and leave grit in ice cubes. Rated service life is 200 gallons or 6 months, whichever comes first.

Because the cartridge sits inside the refrigerator rather than behind the bottom grille, there is no need to move the appliance or shut off the water supply. The push-and-twist quarter-turn design means the swap takes under a minute, and the housing seals itself the moment the old cartridge clears the socket — expect only a few drops of water, not a spill.

Installation Instructions

  1. Open the fresh food compartment and locate the filter housing in the upper right rear corner, near the ceiling.
  2. Press the dispenser lever two or three times to relieve pressure in the water line.
  3. Rotate the old cartridge 90° counter-clockwise, until the grip end turns from vertical to horizontal, then pull it straight out. Keep a cloth handy for a few drops of water.
  4. Remove the protective cap from the new EPTWFU01 and check that the O-rings are seated and undamaged.
  5. Slide the new cartridge in with the grip end horizontal, push it in as far as it will go, then rotate 90° clockwise until the grip end is vertical and it stops.
  6. Dispense and discard approximately 1.5 gallons of water, or run the dispenser for about 3 minutes, to purge trapped air and loose carbon fines. Sputtering, noise and cloudy water during this stage are normal.
  7. Reset the filter indicator by pressing and holding the Filter Reset or Water Filter button on the dispenser panel for about 3 seconds, until the light returns to green.
  8. Discard the first two or three batches of ice.

Replacement Schedule

Household / usage Suggested replacement Notes
1 to 2 people, light dispenser use Every 6 months Replace on schedule even if the indicator has not triggered
3 to 4 people, typical use Every 5 to 6 months Roughly matches the 200 gallon rating
5 or more people, heavy ice and water use Every 4 months The 200 gallon limit is usually reached well before 6 months
Water supply with visible sediment or rust Every 3 to 4 months Sediment loads the carbon block early and slows dispenser flow
Any household seeing slow flow or returning chlorine taste Replace now Do not wait for the indicator light

Frequently Asked Questions

My filter says EWF02, not EPTWFU01. Is this the right one? Yes. EWF02 is the Electrolux designation for the same cartridge. EPTWFU01, EPTWFU01C and EWF02 all share the same body, O-rings and housing interface.

Mine says EPTWFU01C. Will the EPTWFU01 fit? Yes. The C suffix marks a later production revision, not a different fitment. They are interchangeable in both directions.

How is this different from the ULTRAWF? The ULTRAWF PureSource Ultra is a long cylindrical cartridge roughly 11 inches in length; the EPTWFU01 is short and flat with a wide grip end. They are physically different shapes and neither will seat in the other's housing. If your refrigerator was built before 2015, check for the ULTRAWF.

How is this different from the FPPWFU01 PurePour PWF-1? The FPPWFU01 is the cartridge used on Frigidaire refrigerators built from roughly 2020 onward. It is a separate design and is not interchangeable with the EPTWFU01.

Where exactly is the filter located? Inside the fresh food compartment, upper right rear corner, near the ceiling. You do not need to move the refrigerator or open the bottom grille.

Why is my water sputtering and cloudy after installation? That is trapped air in the line and normal for a new cartridge. Dispense about 1.5 gallons, or run the dispenser roughly 3 minutes, and it will clear.

Does this filter the ice maker as well as the dispenser? Yes. Both the dispenser line and the ice maker line run through this cartridge. Discard the first two or three batches of ice after a swap.

How do I reset the filter light? Press and hold the Filter Reset or Water Filter button on the dispenser control panel for about 3 seconds. On some models the button is labelled with a filter icon rather than text.

Can I run my refrigerator without a filter? Most models in this range will dispense water with the cartridge removed, though flow may be reduced and the filter indicator will continue to signal. Leaving the cartridge in place is the better option.
