Frigidaire FPPWFU01 PurePour PWF-1 Refrigerator Water Filter
The FPPWFU01 is the replacement cartridge for the Frigidaire PurePour PWF-1 water and ice filtration system, used in Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional and Electrolux side-by-side and French door refrigerators built from roughly 2018 onward. It reduces chlorine taste and odor and traps sediment and particulates, so water and ice from the dispenser taste clean.
10-Second Fit Check
- Open the fresh food (refrigerator) door and look at the ceiling, toward the front right.
- You should see a horizontal cylindrical filter sitting in a recessed housing, with only the round end cap visible.
- Press the end cap. On a PWF-1 system, the cartridge pops forward and slides straight out — there is no cap to rotate.
- Read the label on the old cartridge. It will say PWF-1, FPPWFU01, or EPPWFU01.
Product Description
This cartridge drops into the PurePour PWF-1 housing and restores filtration to your refrigerator's water dispenser and ice maker. A carbon block core reduces chlorine taste and odor while capturing sediment, rust particles and other suspended particulates carried in on your supply line, which is what brings back clear ice and neutral-tasting water.
Replacement takes under a minute and needs no tools. Press the old cartridge to release it, slide it out, slide the new one in until it clicks, then flush the line. Because the housing is inside the fresh food compartment rather than behind a grille, there is nothing to unscrew, no plumbing to disconnect and no water shutoff required.
Frigidaire's filter indicator light on the dispenser panel tracks usage and turns amber or red when the cartridge is due. After installing a new filter, hold the reset button until the indicator returns to green.

How to Replace the Filter
- Turn the ice maker off at the control panel. You do not need to shut off the household water supply.
- Open the fresh food door and locate the filter housing in the ceiling toward the front right.
- Press firmly on the round end cap of the old cartridge. It will release and pop forward.
- Slide the old cartridge straight out of the housing and discard it. Keep a towel handy — a small amount of water may drip.
- Unwrap the new cartridge and align it with the guide in the housing. Slide it in until it stops against the connector at the back.
- Push firmly until you hear and feel it click into place. The end cap should sit flush with the housing.
- Run about 1.5 gallons (roughly 3 minutes) through the dispenser to purge air and carbon fines. Discard this water.
- Turn the ice maker back on and discard the first two batches of ice.
- Press and hold the filter reset button on the dispenser panel until the indicator light returns to green.
Replacement Schedule
| Household | Typical Interval | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 people, light dispenser use | 6 months | Change on schedule even if the indicator hasn't tripped |
| 3–4 people, daily water and ice | 5–6 months | The standard case the 6-month rating is based on |
| 5+ people or heavy ice use | 4–5 months | Flow drop is usually the first sign |
| Sediment-heavy or well-fed supply | 3–4 months | Particulates load the media faster than dissolved chlorine |
Change the cartridge sooner than scheduled if dispenser flow slows noticeably, if chlorine taste or odor returns, or if the ice starts coming out cloudy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is FPPWFU01 the same as PWF-1?
Yes. PWF-1 is the name of the filter system and the marking you'll see on the cartridge label; FPPWFU01 is the part number used for ordering. EPPWFU01 is the identical cartridge sold under the Electrolux label.
Will this fit if my current filter is an ULTRAWF or EPTWFU01?
No. Those are different filter systems with different housings. ULTRAWF (PureSource Ultra) twists into a housing in the upper right rear corner, and EPTWFU01 (PureSource Ultra II) uses a differently shaped cartridge. Neither will accept a PWF-1, and a PWF-1 will not lock into their housings.
Do I have to turn off the water supply?
No. The housing seals itself when the cartridge is removed. Keep a cloth handy for the small amount of water released during the swap.
Where exactly is the filter located?
Inside the fresh food compartment, recessed into the ceiling toward the front right. Only the round end cap is visible when the cartridge is installed — many people mistake it for a light housing.
How do I reset the filter indicator light?
After installing the new cartridge, press and hold the filter reset button on the dispenser control panel for about three seconds, until the indicator returns to green. The exact button varies by model — on some panels it is labeled "Filter Reset," on others you hold the "Filter" pad.
Why is my water sputtering after I changed the filter?
Air trapped in the filter housing and supply line. Dispense about 1.5 gallons and it will settle. Cloudy water for the first day is the same cause — dissolved air, not contamination.
How many should I buy?
Most households replace this filter twice a year, so a two-pack covers a full year and a three-pack covers eighteen months. Multi-packs are available on this page through the quantity selector.
What does this filter reduce?
Chlorine taste and odor, plus sediment and particulates carried in on the supply line. That is what restores neutral-tasting water and clear ice.
My model number isn't on the list — will it still fit?
If your existing cartridge is labeled PWF-1, FPPWFU01 or EPPWFU01, this is the correct replacement regardless of whether your model number appears above. The list covers the most common models, not every model ever built.
